Ahead of Independent Retailer Month, July 2011, I wanted to share some of the great activities that are happening to support and celebrate Independent Retail.

I love this shop because…

This is a fun and innovative addition to the campaign to celebrate independent retail, inviting everyone (customers, staff, shop owners, suppliers) to complete the sentence “I love this shop because…” with their video answer.

If you’ve not done a video response before it’s quite simple – you just click into the comments box as if you were going to type a comment and a link appears to the right “or Create a video response

Hopefully this will encourage everyone to reflect on the positive reasons why we need to support our independent retailers!

A blog-a-day for Indie Retail…

Press release for you…

We know smaller retailers are busy people and the last thing you probably want to be doing is issuing press releases! If you email us your news with a few images we’ll press release it for you on our PR Log account, hopefully getting you some attention from the press!

Several of those businesses who support Independent Retailer Month UK are those who service the retail sector. As such they’ve come up with a range of special offers for retailers throughout July. If you want to find out more the details will be available on Independent Retailer Month UK News page and latest offers will be included in our email newsletters – so please do sign up to receive the newsletters using the form on the Independent Retailer Month homepage.

Giving supporting retailers a presence on our website…

In a few days we’ll be launching a 2nd form that retailers who are supporting the campaign and getting involved can complete to share their details with us. What we’ll then do is create a list on the website of all those retailers who are getting involved, by name, business type, location and with a link back to their website or Google places listing – whatever online presence they have for their shop.

This should have 2 benefits – it will help people to know who the really active local retail businesses are, should they want to make an effort to shop local during independent retailer month (and beyond) and it will encourage other retailers to do something so they too can be listed!
